Murat Üçer serves as Global Source's Consultant in Turkey, is Co-founder of Turkey Data Monitor, and a Senior Lecturer at Koç and Bosphorus Universities in Istanbul. As a Consultant, he provides macroeconomic expertise to commercial banks, multinational corporations and public sector organizations. Mr. Üçer received his B.A. and Ph.D. in Economics from Boğazici University and Boston College, respectively.

Why Turkish growth ended

Following a period of rapid economic growth, the Turkish economy has slowed significantly since 2007. This column argues that these economic ups and downs reflect institutional improvements in the aftermath of the country’s 2001 financial crisis, followed by an ominous slide in the quality of these economic and political institutions.
